The Brief History of Lottery Games

The Brief History of Lottery Games – Dare and Fair

According to some resources, lottery games go as far back as the ancient Biblical times. However, scholars still cannot quite agree on it, but after all, it would not look appropriate if ancient characters earned through gambling. However, it is but common knowledge that Moses himself got his estate by Jordan River after he played some kind of local lottery, known for that time. Now, it is not the place to decide whether Moses and all the Saints played lottery, but the fact remains that lottery games were amongst the first to appear with humans. Book of Numbers is still considered a Biblical book, so no one should be surprised so many people in this world get so itchy whenever interpreting or – in lottery games terms – picking their numbers.

However, the Book of Numbers never mentioned lottery as it is. It has a history of a written document no sooner than two hundred years BC, during the Hun Dynasty. They established lottery games in order to provide for themselves, that is, to ensure enough money for their taxes, while people played, whether they wanted or not. The famous Chinese lottery games are many, though very well known even today, is Keno, where the certain amount of its earnings was used for the building of the Great China Wall. As far as Europe is concerned, history teaches us that Julius Caesar was the first one, to bring it to those areas.

Lottery games existed all through the age of renaissance, as well. However, there are very few documents to support it further. Certainly the first of the European lottery games to be noted was organized but the famous Van Eyck, an established Belgium painter, who gave away his paintings to those, who were the winners. This happened by the middle of the XV century, accompanied by regular lotteries in Belgium only 20 years after that. However, such European lottery games of the middle ages were used for raising funds, necessary to build chapels, drainage systems and shelters for those, in need.

Such a fund raising "game" had no actual name prior to the beginning of the XVI century, during the unpredicted results of elections in Italy. However, lottery today in Italy means as much as it does in many other languages – something, that is predestined or even, gambling for what is impossible to be won.

A less than twenty years after these, there was an actual number lottery game, where cash prizes were introduced for the first time in this age. It was not much later than this when the king of France decided to relief his kingdom out of debt, by organising lottery games. It seems that people found out soon enough what a great way of collecting money it is, as long as you don't have to give the prize to every participant!

England and still colonized United States organized lotteries back then, when Elisabeth I made the world famous move, by opening one of the first English lottery games, where close to half a million tickets were sold, while the prizes included various valuable things like money, tapestries and porcelain. However money-luring, it seems lottery games fairly helped culture in the old days, and that is the fact.
